Use Agently

Build your own agents

Jarvis already splits big jobs and hands the heavy parts to sub-agents. When your team repeats a kind of work, such as reviewing pull requests, preparing for sales meetings or researching a market, you can build a specialist agent for it. Jarvis can then hand that work to your agent.

Build an agent

  1. Choose Agents in the sidebar, then New specialist. Start from a suggestion, describe the job yourself, or build it together with Jarvis in the panel beside the editor.
  2. Define: give it a name, a one-line purpose and its working instructions. Write them as you would brief a capable teammate: what to do, how, and what good output looks like.
  3. Equip: choose what it can use.
    • Skills, the playbooks it should follow. See Skills.
    • Tools, such as web search, Pages and the tools of your connected apps (for example GitHub, Linear or Jira for software work). An agent can't start its own sub-agents or use your Mac.
    • Reference pages, up to 20 pages from Pages it should read before working, such as a style guide or a strategy memo.
  4. Launch: choose who can use it.
    • Just me, your personal specialist.
    • Workspace, for your team and routines. Only owners and admins can share an agent with the workspace.
  5. Choose Publish agent. Edits stay in your draft until you publish them again, and Published versions keeps every version.

Use it

  • Work with it directly. Open the agent in Agents and start a conversation.
  • Ask Jarvis to use it. In your own chat, ask Jarvis to use the agent by name, for example "Have the PR reviewer check this branch."
  • Let Jarvis bring it in. For a workspace agent, turn on Let Jarvis bring it in, and Jarvis delegates to it whenever the work fits. Otherwise Jarvis uses it only when you ask.
  • Inside a routine. A workspace agent can run a step of a routine. The routine always runs the agent's latest published version.

Your agents follow the same approvals as Jarvis: anything that would send, delete or archive something you didn't ask for still asks first. See what Jarvis asks before doing.

Agents outside Agently

Jarvis and your agents can use tools from other services through a custom connector: any remote MCP server you add by URL. That lets them call another service's tools, including other AI agents that offer an MCP server. See Connect your tools. In the other direction, Claude, ChatGPT and other AI tools can read your Brain through the MCP server.

Credits

Conversations with your agents, and the work Jarvis hands to them, run on Agently and use credits like any chat, or your workspace's own API key if it has one. See Credits and your own API key.

Troubleshooting

  • "This agent is archived or has not been published." Open it in Agents and choose Publish agent, or restore it from Archived.
  • "A reference page is no longer available to this agent." A page it reads was deleted or made private. Open the agent, update its references in Equip, and publish again.
  • You can't choose Workspace. Sharing an agent needs an owner or admin.
  • A routine says it can't run this step. The agent was archived. Restore it, or choose another agent for that step.
