Agently for Mac

Grant permissions

Agently for Mac only asks macOS for what a feature needs. You can change any of these later in System Settings. The Mac app's own settings are under Agently → Settings… (⌘,) or the menu bar icon → Settings….

For Jarvis's voice

  1. Microphone. macOS asks the first time you talk to Jarvis. If you said no, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone and turn on Agently.
  2. Speech Recognition (for "Hey, Jarvis"). Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Speech Recognition and turn on Agently.
  3. English (US) Dictation (for "Hey, Jarvis"). Open System Settings → Keyboard → Dictation, add English (US), and let macOS download its language support. The wake phrase is recognized on your Mac, so it needs this.

For Jarvis on this Mac

  1. In Agently's settings, under Jarvis on this Mac, turn on Jarvis can use this Mac. A dialog explains what it allows. Cancel is the default, so read it and choose Turn On, then Save settings.
  2. If macOS still needs permissions, setup starts by itself. A card sits beside System Settings and ticks each permission as macOS reports it, and you can drag the app icon into the list. You can start it again with Finish setup (or Run setup again).
  3. Accessibility and Screen Recording are the two main ones. On recent macOS the second list may be called Screen & System Audio Recording. Quit and reopen Agently after granting Screen Recording; macOS applies it after a relaunch.
  4. Calendars, Reminders, Contacts and apps. Setup also asks for these, and the first time Jarvis works in an app such as Mail, macOS asks whether Agently may control it ("Jarvis controls apps on your Mac when you ask it to."). You can change this later in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation.
  5. Optional switches. Allow scripts and commands lets Jarvis run AppleScript and shell commands it writes itself; it is off by default and asks every time, except a few read-only commands. Show Jarvis's work on screen shows Jarvis's cursor, a caption and the list of steps while it works.

Clicking and typing in other apps needs macOS 15 or later. On macOS 13 and 14 the rest of Jarvis works.

Jarvis does these without asking lists what you chose to always allow. Choose Revoke to take one back.

For notifications

In Agently's settings, turn on Native notifications. Then check System Settings → Notifications → Agently. Focus modes still apply. Turn on Show details in notifications to see the title instead of generic wording; details can show on the lock screen.

Troubleshooting

  • Settings says "Finish setup · N left". Choose Finish setup and grant what is listed.
  • Access stopped working after an update. macOS can tie a grant to the exact build you approved. Choose Finish setup. If it still fails, use Reset and try again on the setup card, then approve again.
  • Jarvis can't work in one app. You may have said no when macOS asked. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation, find Agently, and turn on that app.
  • Screenshots fail even though the switch is on. Quit and reopen Agently after granting Screen Recording.
  • "Hey, Jarvis" says on-device recognition is unavailable. Add English (US) Dictation as described above, and wait for the download to finish.
