Connect Slack and use Jarvis in Slack
In Slack, Jarvis is an app you can message. It works on any plan, on the web and on Mac. Each message to Jarvis costs at least 1 credit, and longer requests cost more, priced by what they use, like a chat. If your workspace has its own API key, Slack requests run on it and use no credits.
Set it up
- In Agently, open Brain → Sources, choose Add integration, and connect Slack with your own Slack account.
- Each teammate who wants to use Jarvis connects their own Slack account too. Jarvis knows who you are only from that connection, never from your name or email.
- In Slack, open Jarvis from your apps and send it a direct message. Suggested prompts appear at the top.
How it works
- Direct messages run on your Jarvis chat, the same one you use by voice and in the app. Jarvis replies with On it…, shows its steps, then replaces that with the answer. Long answers end with a link to the full chat.
- Channel threads. Mention @Jarvis in a channel thread. It reads the thread and answers there, one request at a time. In channels, Jarvis never uses your personal data, such as your mail or private notes. If you ask for your to-do list in a channel, it answers in your direct message instead.
- Mentions. When you mention a teammate or a channel, Jarvis reads it by name. You can write "loop in @Sam" and Jarvis knows who you mean.
- Two at a time. Jarvis works on two of your requests at once, counting the ones you made by voice. Send a third and it asks you to wait for one to finish.
- Approvals. In a direct message, what you ask for in your own words runs without asking. Anything else that would send, post, delete or archive something asks first. In a channel thread, asking Jarvis never counts as your go-ahead, so it always asks. The request arrives in your direct message with buttons: Allow once, Always allow or Deny, or Send and Discard for an email. Only you can press yours. See what Jarvis asks before doing.
- Notifications. After your first message, your Agently notifications also arrive in that direct message. Turn them off or on from Jarvis's Home tab.
Troubleshooting
- Jarvis says it doesn't know who you are. In Agently, open Brain → Sources, choose Add integration, and connect your own Slack account. Then message Jarvis again.
- Jarvis says the workspace is out of credits. Only a workspace owner can buy credits, so Jarvis tells you which owner to ask. Owners top up in Settings → Billing, or an owner or admin adds the workspace's own API key in Settings → Models.
- You can't add another connection. Your plan's connected-app limit is reached. See Connect your tools.
- The link at the end of an answer asks you to sign in or activate. Links open the chat in your browser when your workspace has an AppSumo license. Otherwise open the chat in the Mac app.
