Plans and credits

Credits and your own API key

Credits pay for the AI work Agently runs for you. They belong to the workspace and the whole team shares them. You can buy more, or add your own Anthropic or OpenAI API key so runs use no credits at all. This works on every plan, including every AppSumo tier.

What uses credits

Each run is charged by what it uses, so a short question costs less than a long piece of work.

  • Chats set to Smart or to an Agently model (Opus, Sonnet or Haiku).
  • Work Jarvis does in the background: routines, cards in Work and to-dos you hand it.
  • Jarvis in Slack.
  • Spoken requests, unless they run on your own Claude or ChatGPT plan in the Mac app.
  • Draft reply in Needs you.
  • Images and documents Jarvis generates. These always use credits, even when you have your own key.

What doesn't use credits

  • Chats on your own Claude or ChatGPT plan in the Mac app.
  • Runs on your workspace's own API key (below).
  • Small behind-the-scenes model calls, such as ranking Needs you, writing chat titles and reading what you add to the Brain.
  • The voice conversation itself. The work you ask for while talking uses credits as above.

See your balance and buy more

Open Settings → Billing. Credits shows what you have used and what is left.

The workspace owner can buy credits there, under Buy credits:

PackCreditsPrice
Small500$10
Medium1,500$30
Large5,000$100
Custom amount100 to 10,000$0.02 per credit

Payment opens in Stripe. Every AppSumo tier can buy credits, and an AppSumo workspace is never offered a subscription. On AppSumo, neither your tier's credits nor the credits you buy have an expiry date. Bought credits are non-refundable; see the refund policy.

Use your own API key

  1. Open Settings → Models. Under Your API keys, choose add key next to Anthropic or OpenAI. Only owners and admins can add or change keys.
  2. Paste the key and choose save key. Agently checks it with the provider first, then stores it encrypted. Only the last four characters are shown.
  3. From then on, runs that would use credits run on your key instead: chats on Smart or an Agently model, routines, work cards, voice requests and Slack. You pay the provider directly.

Which key a run uses:

  • An Anthropic key runs Smart, Opus, Sonnet and Haiku.
  • An OpenAI key alone runs Smart on OpenAI models.
  • A chat set to one model uses the key for that model's provider, or credits if there is none.

A single run on your key stops at about $20 of spend, to protect you from a runaway run.

When your key stops working

  • The provider rejects the key, or its quota runs out. The run stops with a message, the key shows as rejected in Settings → Models, and owners and admins get a notification. Every run that would use that key stops until an owner or admin chooses test, replace or remove. Agently never switches those runs to your credits without asking, because you were told they were free.
  • The provider is rate limiting the key. The run reports it, and the key stays in place. Try again in a minute.
  • You want to go back to credits. Choose remove next to the key.

When credits run out

Work that uses credits stops until you add more. On an AppSumo tier, buy credits or add your own API key in Settings → Models. In Slack, Jarvis tells you which owner to ask.

Troubleshooting

  • There is no Buy credits section. Only the workspace owner can buy credits.
  • Settings → Models says "not added · runs use credits". No key is set for that provider.
  • "The workspace's Anthropic key was rejected, so this did not run." An owner or admin can test or replace it in Settings → Models, or remove it to use credits.
